Vegas runs on conventions — CES alone brings over 100,000 people every January — and the one thing that decides your week is how far your hotel is from your show floor. The city has four main convention venues, spread miles apart, so "on the Strip" isn't specific enough. Match your hotel to your venue and you walk to the floor; miss it and you're in a rideshare line every morning.
The LVCC on Paradise Road is the biggest venue in town and hosts CES and most of the mega-shows. The closest hotels are Westgate (attached by its own walkway), the Las Vegas Hilton, and the north-Strip resorts — Wynn, Encore, and Resorts World — all a short ride or the Monorail away. The Monorail is the key here: it runs behind the east-side Strip hotels from the Convention Center station down to MGM Grand, which skips the traffic entirely during a big show. If your event is at the LVCC, staying near a Monorail stop is worth more than staying on the Strip itself.
Mandalay Bay's convention space anchors the south end. Stay at Mandalay Bay, Luxor, or Delano and you're connected by tram or a covered walk — no rideshare needed all week. This is one of the easiest venues to stay near, because the three connected hotels cover every budget from Luxor's value rooms up to Delano's suites.
The Venetian Expo (the old Sands Expo) sits behind the Venetian and Palazzo, and staying in either puts you an indoor walk from the floor. It's the most comfortable convention stay on the Strip — you never step outside to reach your session, which in July or during F1 traffic is a real advantage.
Caesars Forum sits behind the Linq, between Caesars Palace and the Strip. The walkable hotels are Harrah's, the Linq, and the Flamingo, all a few minutes on foot. Caesars Palace itself is a slightly longer but covered walk. Stay in this cluster and you're at the Forum in ten minutes without a car.
Convention weeks are the most expensive, most sold-out weeks of the year. CES in early January, and the big shows through spring and fall, push rates up and fill rooms months ahead.
